Death
Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox, Regent of Scotland, died shot dead in a skirmish led by the George Gordon, 5th Earl of Huntly, Claude Hamilton, and the lairds of Buccleuch and Ferniehurst on 4 September 1571 at age 54 in Stirling Bridge, Scotland. He was buried after 4 September 1571 in Stirling Castle.
