Family life
Reverend James Fleming, purported son of Alexander Fleming brother to John Fleming Earl of Wigtown, and
Janet Forsyth, daughter of Rev. Alexander Forsyth, DD, rector of Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, entered into a marriage contract on 11 September 1660 In an agreement, dated 11 September 1660, relative to his marriage-contract, he is called only son of Alexander Flemyng, of the Kingdom of Scotland, and grandson of the deceased Earl of Wigtown. John Fleming 3rd Earl of Wigtown did not die until 1665, so his grandfather must have been John Fleming 2nd Earl, who had died in 1650 and who did have a son named Alexander. Nothing concrete is known of Alexander after his birth, but there is strong evidence that he married in england and migrated to Virginia where he produced a large dynasty. So, for Reverend James Fleming to have been his son, he must have been born (possibly in ireland) before his father went to England and the USA.
