William ("Peter") Fleming, 8th? of Barochan, was born circa 1455.

Family life

William ("Peter") Fleming, 8th? of Barochan, and Marion Houston, daughter of the Laird of Houston, were married circa 1475. She had previously bee married to Colin Mor Campbell and Robert Crawford vth of Auchinames.

Working life

  • Before 1513 William ("Peter") Fleming, 8th? of Barochan, was occupied as Sheriff in Lanark.1

Property

William ("Peter") Fleming, 8th? of Barochan, possessed had sasine of Barachane in 1492 in Barrochane.2 He possessed had, along with his spouse Marion Houston, a charter of the king for the ancient lands of Barrochane including Kilellanis, Barlogane, Crukis on 15 February 1507 in Barochan.3

Death

William ("Peter") Fleming, 8th? of Barochan, died killed in battle, along with 6 of his sons on 9 September 1513 at age ~58 in Flodden. Metcalf indicates that a father and six sons were killed at Flodden and that another son (James) was still living in 1518. But RSRS, 16, 615 describes James' son William as a son of the grandfather.4,5,6,7
