Patrick ("Sheriff of Peebles") Fleming, of Biggar, was born circa 1293. Could his given name be evidence (based on the Scottish Naming Convention) that Marjory of Biggar's father's name was Patrick, not Hugh? NO, ROBERT'S FATHER WAS PATRICK.1,2

Patrick ("Sheriff of Peebles") Fleming, of Biggar, and Joan ("heiress of Sir Simon Fraser") Fraser were married circa 1309. Hunter discredits the suggestion that Patrick recieved Biggar as part of his wife's heritage. Agreed.3,4,5,6,2,7,8

Working life

  • In 1327 Patrick ("Sheriff of Peebles") Fleming, of Biggar, was occupied as Sheriff of Peebles in Peebles.9
  • On 8 September 1346 Patrick ("Sheriff of Peebles") Fleming, of Biggar, was occupied as Sheriff of Tweedale (i.e. Peebles) in Tweedale. David, king of Scots, has given his beloved and faithful Patrick Fleming the office of sheriff of the whole sheriffdom of Tweeddale (i.e., Peebles) together with the leadership (ducatu) of the men of the whole sheriffdom, in feu and heritage.10,11,2,7

Property

Patrick ("Sheriff of Peebles") Fleming, of Biggar, possessed recieved the Barony of Oliver through marriage to Joan Fraser circa 1317 in Oliver.12 He possessed was ordered by king Edward III to give up his land at Berwick to Ralph de Coldyngam on 6 July 1334 in Berwick.13 He possessed was mentioned as earlier grantor in a charter of confirmation for Hugh de Crawford in the land of Bracanrig in Strathavon on 26 January 1358 in Bracanrig in Strathavon.14,15,16 He possessed donated Breckonridge in the barony of Strathaven to John Graham of Kinghorn before 26 January 1360 in Breckonridge in the barony of Strathaven.10,17

Death

Patrick ("Sheriff of Peebles") Fleming, of Biggar, had his estate probated between 1359 and 1361 in Biggar, Oliver. He died before 26 January 1360.10
