Charles ("The Last") Fleming, 7th Earl of Wigtown, 12th Lord Fleming, was born before 1669.1

Titles

Charles ("The Last") Fleming, 7th Earl of Wigtown, 12th Lord Fleming, held the title of inherited the title of 7th earl of Wigtown on 10 February 1744.2

Working life

  • Charles ("The Last") Fleming, 7th Earl of Wigtown, 12th Lord Fleming, served in the military as attended a meeting at the Earl Marishal's house and afterwards "went along with the army" on 6 February 1716.3

Charles ("The Last") Fleming, 7th Earl of Wigtown, 12th Lord Fleming, possessed was sued by William Stirling of Herbertshire for recovery of the parsonage teinds due from the lands of Catscleugh for 40 years preceding 1723 in 1743 in Catscleuch.5 He possessed has estate at Kirkintilloch suffered terribly from part of the rebel army of Prince Charelkes Edward in 1745.6,7 He possessed this Wigtown asset was part of legal proceedings between the Earl of March and Murray of Broughton in 1746 in Lease of the teinds in Broughton.8

Death

Charles ("The Last") Fleming, 7th Earl of Wigtown, 12th Lord Fleming, died on 16 May 1747. Lanarkshire - died without issue in 1747,

On the death of her uncle Charles, seventh Earl of Wigton, as already stated, she became possessor'of the estates of Biggar and Cumbernauld, and she was also, through her mother, heiress-of-line of William, ninth Earl Marischal.1,2,9,10 He was buried on 22 May 1747 in Airth.1 He had his estate probated after 22 May 1747. While she inherited the Fleming family estates, she could not inherit the Title of Earl of Wigtown since she was not an heir-male. The title was assumed by Charlea Ross Fleming MD of Dublin who claimed to be descended from Alexander Fleming, son of John, first Earl of Wigtown, who, he alleged, had a son. This claim was eventually considered by the House of Lords which decline to endorse it, so the title has lain dormant ever since.1,9,10
