William Fleming, of Barochan, was born circa 1245.1

Parents

Working life

  • Before 1286 William Fleming, of Barochan, was occupied as militibus.2
  • On 12 November 1292 William Fleming, of Barochan, was occupied as soldier in Berwick-upon-Tweed.3
  • Between 3 October 1303 and 19 July 1333 William Fleming, of Barochan, was occupied as steward of Lennox. JAF -
    In a cartulary de Levenaux he was described as "tunc temporalis seneschall de Levenax", steward of Lennox. This may have been equivalent to the factor. There is a detached seal of William "Flanders", a fesse surmounted with a bend, with the letters "sigillum WILLI. FLANDRIENSIS". These are the arms of the Flemings of Barrochan.4,5,6
  • Circa 1306 William Fleming, of Barochan, was occupied as sheriff in Lanark.7

Death

William Fleming, of Barochan, died after 1309. He had his estate probated between 1310 and 1359 in Dalnottar.
