John Fleming was born circa 1313.

MotherMarjory the Queen's nurse, foster-mother to King David II, Countess of Wigtown (b. circa 1290, d. before 7 July 1361)

John Fleming was married CA 1328–9. King Robert I made a substantial wedding gift of 40 pounds.1,2

Working life

  • In 1342 John Fleming was occupied as clerk of the wardrobe on a salary of 22/15/4.3
  • In 1342 John Fleming was occupied as was paid a further 10/-/- as clerk of the wardrobe.4

Death

John Fleming died before September 1351. He must have died before this because his son Thomas was then identified as heir to the earldom as a hostage for King David II.5,6,7,1,8,9
